Laptop Repair Dallas- Hard Drive Repairs

Hard drive failure is common in older PCs and laptops which was evident recently with an HP hv6000 laptop. These type drives are an affordable repair, actually replacement, that generally greatly improves performance with a new drive versus a failing drive. PCVD can easily replace drives and copy the old information from the original drive for a reasonable price.

Data can also be copied to a customers external drive then a new operating system can be installed with the latest antivirus programs and malware scanners then updated with the latest security signatures. The data copied to the external drive will assist the new drive with more available drive space and less files to handle which has the potential for significant performance.

Solid-state drives are quickly emerging with more reasonably data storage on laptop drives that currently may be found for around $120 for a 64Gb drive. The life on these drives are definitely longer but of course need to be taken care of physically, meaning limited blunt-force, keeping the unit dry, etc. Also, the new solid-state drives would still be subject to malware.

Computer Repair- Spawning Cookies

PC Virus Doctors have been aware of the privacy issues concerning many of the cookies that have proliferated the internet for years. The latest cookies of concern are the Flash cookies that are used by Adobe Flash Player. Privacy advocates have been particularly concerned with Flash cookies because of their difficulty in removal and because some Flash cookies are "Spawning Cookies" that will restart webpages once Flash Player has been closed.

The Spawning Cookies will reload even after deletion, according to a news article by Telecompaper. The Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) Netherlands strongly rebuked such tactics and urges that Spawning Cookies not be used by companies. IAB went further, "and said re-spawning was illegal under existing EU and national data protection rules."

Adobe Flash Player 10.3 has just been released that integrates into web browsers that allows for easy Flash cookie deletion that the FTC has urged and pointed out Adobe to address the privacy concerns/issues. The new Flash player works cross platform on Windows, Mac OS, Linux and Android OS's.

A simple computer repair is to use the powerful Flash cookie deletion tool, Click&Clean, that can be integrated with CCleaner. Below is the following link to get you started in Flash privacy:

Sony PlayStation Networked Attack Linked to Amazon EC2

PC Virus Doctors' Computer Repair in Dallas has learned that the Amazon EC2, Elastic Computing Cloud, was suspicioned to be involved in the Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) against Sony's PlayStation Network (PSN) creating the second largest security breach in U.S. history. The breach affected more than 100 million customers second to Heartland Payment Systems breach in 2009.

The Amazon servers were not hacked but actually purchased for pennies an hour that allowed a hacker access to Amazon servers to then attack the PSN; the attacker's Amazon account has since been suspended. Sony just restarted their PlayStation network yesterday, May 14 after it was shut down on April 20th. Amazon is not responding to any requests about the allegations that their servers were involved in the attack and neither is the FBI responding to any information about the incident(s), according to the Bloomberg article.

Cloud servers are an ideal vehicle as they can facilitate such hacking activities while the cloud servers have difficulty detecting the good guys and the bad guys. Sony reports that the attack was professional and very sophisticated while 31% of cyber attacks occur in the United States up from 24% last year and 85% of U.S. businesses have been attacked according to Ponemon Institute.

Computer Repair- Rogue Vista Home Security 2011

PC Virus Doctors' Computer Repair has ventured across another rogue Microsoft program titled, "Vista Home Security 2011" that once again is difficult to remove. The fake program masquerades as a legitimate Microsoft product but infected users will quickly understand that the program is not legitimate by the way it behaves. The program disallows startup of previously installed legitimate malware removers making the virus removal challenging.

Viruses and other malware continue to be an ongoing threat in the internet community and is not letting off with new malware packages being distributed regularly. Even with the most advanced firewalls malware can sneak by especially with "zero-day" exploits that is malware released without any previous knowledge of its workings by anti-malware vendors as it is a "new release".

Users experiencing this fake Microsoft program may contact PC Virus Doctors @ (214) 723-4335 for immediate assistance.

Computer Repair Dallas- Malware Removal

Another rogue Microsoft program has emerged called "Windows Recovery". The fake program feigns as a savior for damaged systems yet it hogs system resources and will not stop scanning for "problems" until it has finished, at times. The program will stop updates on malware removers, will prevent new malware removers from being installed and will not let current anti-malware programs to execute.

The program surreptiousely installed on a customers computer without giving a "warning" but silently installed during an "adobe update", mostly likely a hacked legitimate website or a website intended for distributing malware by luring web surfers to it by optimized content in order to attract particular users to high profile subjects or topics.

Web users must be very careful before surfing to any website that offers tempting offers (too good to be true) or high profile tempestuous pictures and graphics/media.

Avoid virus removals by looking at the domain address of links by hovering over them and looking in the lower left of the browser which shows the address in the beige lower bar of Windows Internet Explorer.

Computer and laptop users needing help removing the fake Microsoft Windows Recovery may call  our Dallas computer support.

Sony PlayStation Network Threatened With More DDOS

A hacker group has denied that it attacked Sony's PlayStation Network with a Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS). PC Virus Doctors' Computer Repair Dallas ponders if an off-shoot of the infamous hacker group has launched the Sony attack. The attack left the game network offline for over a week.

The attack was two-prong that first launched the DDoS attack that pings servers repeatedly and quickly by a botnet, a huge network of infected computers, that can be controlled to point to different servers and domain names making access by the public impossible because of the traffic congestion.

The second phase was to enter the Sony network servers that stored customer data that was then breached. The threat may be real or not and their next intentions are unknown. If hackers can access the servers then anything may be possible including spreading viruses.
